With the luxury resort reaching midpoint in its construction timeline (during the first quarter of 2013), Bahamas news is abuzz with announcements that Baha Mar Resort is right on schedule for its grand opening. It is currently the biggest luxury resort development not only in Cable Beach Bahamas but also in the Caribbean region.
Representatives from several Bahamas news companies got a sneak peek of the $3.5 billion resort project early this year during a sponsored tour of this mega development project in Nassau. The half-finished Baha Mar Resort compound will feature over 3,000 hotel rooms when concluded. The whole resort compound sits on 1,000 acres of prime land along the pristine beaches of Cable Beach Bahamas.
The Baha Mar resort project includes major brands in the international hotel industry namely Mondrian by the Morgans Hotel Group, Rosewood Hotels and Resorts, and Hyatt Hotels. The signature development centerpiece, Baha Mar Casino and Hotel, tops the big names of hotel brands included in the property complex.
The Bahamas news outfit Caribbean Journal did an interview with Denise Godreau, Chief Marketing Officer of Baha Mar and learned that the company is developing the megaresort with financing from the Import-Export Bank of China. Godreau pointed out that the completion of the Baha Mar casino tower, the megaresort’s highest structure, is an important milestone for Baha Mar. It marks the construction midpoint of the project. The Baha Mar Casino and Hotel will have 1,000 rooms and a 100,000 square foot casino. This is slated to be the largest gaming complex in Nassau as well as in the whole Caribbean region.
Other Bahamas news reports mention the various types of accommodation that the Baha Mar resort complex will offer. Trendy and edgy guests will enjoy their stay in one of Mondrian’s 300 rooms. The hotel and convention center of Grand Hyatt features 700 rooms – ideal for huge gatherings and conventions. The Rosewood Hotel is relatively small. It only has 200 rooms, but it will be the most high-end and luxurious resort in the whole Baha Mar complex. The Baha Mar resort complex also includes existing properties such as the Wyndham and the Sheraton, which offer an additional 1,250 rooms in total.
When finished, the Baha Mar Resort complex will offer the following facilities to its guests: 14 swimming pools, a state of the art convention center, a wide selection of the hippest restaurants and bars, a dedicated performing arts center, a destination spa, and an 18-hole golf course designed by the revered Jack Nicklaus. In addition to these, the complex will have hundreds of retail, dining, entertainment, and art facilities housed in a 60,000 square foot shopping center that will be called the Waterside Place.
Another Baha Mar update that made headlines in the Bahamas news was the announcement that the company developing the destination resort has commissioned the design firm headed by rock star Lenny Kravitz to create a fitting design for a nightclub and a luxury villa housed in the resort complex.
The company is also working on the blueprint of its partnership with the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas for curating a collection of Dawn Davies masterpieces to be exhibited at the Baha Mar Resort. British company ESPA, which is renowned in the spa industry for its luxury spa chain, is also onboard to launch and manage a deluxe destination spa at the Baha Mar Resort complex.
Touted by Bahamas news and travel media as the next Las Vegas in a stunning beach destination, the Baha Mar Resort promises to redefine the hotel and lodging experience, and offers itself as the newest adult destination in the Caribbean. It is believed that it will be more luxurious than any of the luxury resorts in Bahamas today.
Because of the huge development involved, the Baha Mar Resort is expected to create at least 8,000 new jobs for the people of Bahamas and generate more than USD 11 billion worth of earnings for the country over the next 20 years. When completed, the Baha Mar Resort is also expected to contribute in attracting about 300,000 new visitors to the Caribbean every year.
According to Bahamas news reports, the casino-hotel in the resort complex will open right on schedule in December 2014 while Rosewood, Mondrian, Hyatt, and the rest of the Baha Mar Resort complex are slated to launch in March 2015.
